Wings! Chorus

Women Inspired by the Never-ending Gift of Song!

“I marvel at the grace and beauty with which you gently and firmly coax us into singing our best. Thank you for the gift you are and the way you extend your spirit through us to the others we sing for. What a great way to magnify good!” Nancy F.,
Wings! member
  Wings! Meet Our Talented Director:
                    Morning Star Chenven

Morning Star Chenven is a choral director, singer, songwriter, poet, and educator.  She began directing the choir since it’s inception in 2004.

“ At the core of Wings! is the love of music, singing and gathering together in the company of women. Wings! is a group that opens the door for everyone to come in and sing – experienced singers, new singers and those in between.  Like a one room schoolhouse – where everyone is learning together – at all different levels, each Wings member is honored, recognized, encouraged and inspired.  In Wings! we stand behind each other as we take risks, stretch our creative selves, and sing from the depth of our beings.

Musical diversity is key to the Wings! experience.  Our repertoire is drawn from the world’s varied musical traditions and we delight in creating, improvising and having fun with music in non-traditional ways.

Wings! shares the music we make with all kinds of people. We’ve sung to children, elders, those who are hospitalized,  and community venues – we are always seeking new audiences to uplift and celebrate. We seek to support young girls in their journey of empowerment, victims of disaster, anyone who needs the gift of music.

Within Wings! there are many places we can go, as many places as there are people with ideas and heart. We are a community of singers – always learning, supporting each other and loving to sing!”

“The first time I sang at my husband’s Black Pentecostal Church, I was truly scared to be the only white woman there (Jewish too), who knew very little about Gospel music, standing up and singing before all 200 people. As soon as I began to sing from my heart, I could feel the group supporting me, holding me up. They did not know me, but they felt my sincerity and they honored it. I have brought this profound experience with me to Wings! It informs my directing.”
